Loquillo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Loquillo comes from a partnership with a Portuguese pound (perrera) in Campo Maior and Todopatas, which organizes the transport of our animals within Spain for their onward journey to Switzerland. Loquillo is an active, very likeable and playful dog. He is extremely affectionate toward people. He loves being picked up and petted. At the same time, he enjoys playing and is eager to learn new things. He is very attentive and responds well to attention and instructions from volunteer helpers. Loquillo also gets along very well with other dogs. He lives with both males and females and has been walking calmly in a large dog group in the exercise area since his first day. Loquillo is an uncomplicated dog with a good character. He is obedient and gentle in nature. He walks well on the leash and is unimpressed by noises and cars. He also handles car rides calmly. At the vet, he tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. Loquillo is looking for people who enjoy spending time with their dog and take pleasure in keeping him busy both physically and mentally. Since he is very people-oriented and enjoys being petted, cuddling should also not be neglected in everyday life together. It is crucial that his new people give him time to settle into his new surroundings and build trust. Like every dog, Loquillo needs to get to know his new life after adoption and should be allowed to arrive in peace.

DE·Show original

About Loquillo

What life with Loquillo looks like

Loquillo is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loquillo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loquillo?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loquillo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loquillo if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Loquillo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loquillo isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loquillo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
