Lou

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

Lovely little Lou Westie needs a home please. She is a West Highland Terrier and around 11 years old. Lou has a truly fabulous character and is an active and adventurous girl who absolutely loves her walks and days out. North East Terrier Rescue would like to find her the loving home she deserves. Although Lou is an older lady, please don't let her age put you off. She is very sprightly, full of beans and full of fun. Lou is looking for a home with other dogs of a similar size and temperament and is currently living very happily in a multi-dog foster home with other friendly, active and playful dogs. Lou enjoys playing tug with the younger dogs, running around outdoors, chasing after friends on walks and cuddling up to snooze at the end of the day. She very much enjoys her walks; she walks well on the lead and loves to zoom about off-lead in a secure area. Lou must live with other dogs but not cats or small furries. Equally once home, Lou is content just to relax for the rest of the day. She sleeps happily on the sofa downstairs at night, her house-training is just about there, she travels well and is very people friendly. Lou needs a home that will get her out on fun adventures and interesting walks daily. Lou would like a home with a nice secure garden to enjoy. She can be left with the other dogs for reasonable periods but would prefer a home with someone around more often than not. She is a very sweet, loving and playful girl, a characterful little Westie and a gorgeous companion to have around. Lou is a big foodie but does have allergies and needs to eat a particular diet of good quality food. Health-wise, Lou arrived a little overweight but, with good food in moderation and regular exercise, her weight is coming down nicely. Lou does have Cushing's and needs daily medication. She takes these with her evening meal daily and they cost around £60/70 per month. She will need blood tests to monitor twice throughout the year. This can be discussed in more detail with serious applicants. Any potential home must be financially secure and able to cover the ongoing costs. Other than that, Lou is in good health. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ If you have a loving home to give to lovely Lou, please contact North East Terrier Rescue by completing their Application here , or Email: Please mention that you saw Lou on the Oldies Club website.

About Lou

What life with Lou looks like

Lou is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
