Adopt Louis

Mixed Breed · Male

Louis is a neutered male dog born in 2019 who arrived as a surrender dog. Up until now, Louis was the one who commanded, and thus goes through life with a great sense of self-assurance. His very cute appearance can be quite deceiving, and Louis needs very clear and unbiased leadership. However, he is a great and eager companion. He enjoys and is willing to go on long walks and learns new things with great enthusiasm. With other dogs, Louis is conditionally compatible. Some few dogs find him immediately delightful (male or female dogs), while others do not. In these cases, he will initially avoid them. Louis is not a leash bully. In free run, he can be quite the instigator of a fight with a dog he finds unsympathetic, depending on his mood. Unfortunately, Louis also tends to overestimate himself and takes on a Rottweiler. However, he is now very well recallable. Louis reacts strongly with excitement to toys. It can be assumed that he has not been adequately occupied with them. He loves car rides and is also leash-friendly. At home and in the office, he behaves quietly and unobtrusively. We have already completed a recall course with him and he has also been trained in Mantrailing. Our little stud performs exceptionally well everywhere. Louis is an absolute relationship type. Every new person must first deal with Louis, earn his trust, and get to know him. However, if you have a place in his heart, he is a clingy dog. Then he also enjoys cuddles. We have rarely seen so much character in such a small dog 🙂 If you are not afraid of conflict and are looking for a smart but also serious dog, you should meet Louis. We will not place Louis with a family with children, and the interested parties should have dog experience. Also, there should be no cats in the new home. Louis's special effects are really well-handled. Wearing a muzzle is something he is accustomed to, and at least for the first few weeks, it will be necessary 24/7. He is about 40 cm tall and weighs 13 kg. If interested, please arrange a meeting with our dog home team. Tierschutz Bad Oldesloe e. V. E-Mail: or visit www.tierschutz-badoldesloe. Walks well on a leash.

Tierschutz Bad Oldesloe e. V. E-Mail: oder unter www.tierschutz-badoldesloe.de

About Louis

What life with Louis looks like

Louis is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. in Senden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Louis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Louis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Louis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Louis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Louis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Louis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Louis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
