Adopt Maxim

Australian Shepherd · Male · Adult · 6 years

Maxim is a very active male dog. He can walk outside without a leash and responds well to commands. Dog interactions are not a problem; he gets along well with other dogs in general. In the nearby woods, he shows some territorial behavior with a few dogs, but this can be easily interrupted and redirected. He is smart, loves to learn new things, and can perform several tricks. He can stay alone for several hours without any issues and rides in the car well. He walks well on a leash and is very attached to his people. He does not handle large groups of people, much commotion, or small children well. He sometimes eats food scraps found outside, so he wears a muzzle when outside, which he is very accustomed to. In the house, he is more attached to his people and prefers to be where they are. He requires clear leadership. Special trait: If Maxim is confined or something he doesn't like is done (such as brushing in certain spots), he may bite, especially on the inner arms. This does not follow a strict pattern and often happens very suddenly. Breed: Australian Shepherd Born: June 30, 2019 (Almost 6 years old) Specials: Rear bite in the lower jaw, no impairments due to this. This animal has a history of biting.

About Maxim

What life with Maxim looks like

Maxim is a small adult australian shepherd dog waiting at Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. in Senden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxim, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxim?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxim on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxim if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maxim already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxim isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Lüdinghausen und Umgebung e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxim and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
