Luka

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

• I need a calm environment: Yes • I can live in the city: No. I feel more comfortable in the countryside or in a quiet suburban area. • I’m compatible with families with children: Yes, but the children should be at least school-age. • I get along with other dogs: Yes • I’ve lived with cats: No information available. Cat test passed at the shelter. No signs of aggression. • I have the following special characteristics related to my temperament or breed traits: I’m a shy and independent dog. • Health-related considerations include: Nothing noteworthy. • I’ve undergone the following health procedures: None performed • I’ve lived in a home environment under foster care: No • I’ve been at the shelter for over 2 years: Almost • I can walk on a leash: Yes, but I still need some practice. I’m Luka, and that’s exactly how resourceful and clever I look! Feet on the ground, head above water! A real-life survivalist! I became familiar with a volunteer from the shelter when I led her attention to an autumn potato field in 2023. I was an extremely cautious yet curious dog. Like a shadow, a rural fox (or rather, a “zorro”), I stayed close to people and often moved around the edges of farm buildings where livestock were kept. Although I was a familiar sight on the farm, no one recognized me as their own.

About Luka

What life with Luka looks like

Luka is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pet Rescue Finland in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pet Rescue Finland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pet Rescue Finland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pet Rescue Finland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
