Lucas 2

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

**For an explanation, please read “Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families who have young children.” We’ve found a foster home for Lucas! Over the weekend of July 4, he was warmly welcomed into his foster family’s home in Willemsoord (province of Overijssel) as an emergency placement. This allowed Lucas to leave the shelter behind as quickly as possible—thank you so much! 🙏 ➡️ Because Lucas is a cheerful, outgoing puppy with plenty of self-confidence, he’s already available for adoption into a suitable home! Lucas in the Netherlands: Lucas is a gentle, cheerful, and playful puppy who thoroughly enjoys life with his foster family. He loves to play, but also regularly retreats when he gets tired. His favorite spot? The open kennel in the hallway—a dark, cozy corner where he can sleep comfortably. Inside the home, Lucas is social, happy, and friendly toward everyone. He greets visitors cheerfully, then calmly goes back to doing his own thing. He absolutely loves food! Just like his little brother Tom, who lives in the same foster home, Lucas seems to be making up for lost time when it comes to eating. They eat together with the other dogs in the foster home, but this needs to be supervised. Sometimes Lucas nips at things that aren’t meant for him—typical puppy behavior, of course. But he’s easy to guide in this regard. He’s not yet fully house-trained, though he’s already taking nice steps in that direction. Lucas is very cuddly, comes when called, and learns at a wonderful, natural pace. He’s both owner-oriented and dog-oriented; he gets along fantastically with the other dogs in the home. So far, his solo walks last about two hours—though that’s always together with the rest of the pack. Lucas’s foster family hasn’t taken him on walks yet. Exactly as we’d like it, he’s being given plenty of time to adjust to his completely new world inside the house and garden first. Moving from an overcrowded shelter in the Romanian countryside to life as a house dog in the Netherlands is quite a big transition. Allowing him to get plenty of rest and not adding too much new adventure too soon is the best way for him to process everything he’s already been through and now all these overwhelming new impressions.

About Lucas 2

What life with Lucas 2 looks like

Lucas 2 is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucas 2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucas 2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucas 2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucas 2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucas 2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucas 2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucas 2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
