Lucia ID No.: 1035322 Breed: Podenco Andaluz Age: approx. 01/2018 Gender: female Shoulder height: approx. 49 cm Neutered: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Lucia – a tender heart seeking an empathetic home Lucia (*approx. 01/2018, approx. 49 cm) arrived at our Spanish partner shelter, Triple A Marbella, in poor condition—emaciated, with a long-untreated leg fracture, and heavily pregnant. Her physical state clearly reflected her difficult past. Yet as soon as she arrived and sensed she was safe, she began giving birth to her puppies that very same day. Unfortunately, complications arose, requiring emergency transport to a clinic. There, her remaining live puppies were delivered, and Lucia simultaneously underwent surgery to remove her infected uterus. Lucia's six puppies have developed well and will soon be ready for their own forever homes—it’s now time to find the perfect forever home for Lucia herself. Despite everything she has endured, Lucia is a cheerful and people-oriented female dog. She loves being outdoors in nature but is generally gentle and reserved in daily life—very typical for a Podenco. She still often ducks and makes herself small when faced with sudden or hectic movements, a clear sign of the lingering insecurity within her. However, anyone who approaches her with patience, calmness, and gentle affection quickly earns her trust. Once comfortable, she cautiously shares her affection through little kisses and soft nose nudges—tender, just like she is. Lucia gets along very well with other dogs and takes cues from them. She would feel especially at ease in a home with one or more friendly canine companions—ideally fellow animals who treat her gently and help her continue building self-confidence. A securely fenced garden would be a lovely bonus, as Lucia adores being outside and exploring the world. However, she proves quite inventive when she feels unobserved: in enclosed areas, she attempts to climb over fences, so she should never be left alone in the garden. A home with people who can spend ample time with her is therefore particularly important. We hope to find Lucia a quiet, stable environment where she can settle in at her own pace. Any children should be older and sensitive enough to interact gently with dogs—loud boisterousness or rough play would simply be too overwhelming for Lucia. Whether she gets along with cats can gladly be tested at the animal shelter upon request. If Lucia’s story has touched you and you’d like to show her what safety and a true home feel like, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Anyone who opens their heart to her will be rewarded with love, trust, and an exceptionally gentle soul. Lucia is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and holds an EU pet passport. Prior to her travel arrangements, she will be tested for Mediterranean diseases and treated for worms and fleas. Lucia ID-Nr: 1035322 Rasse: Podenco Andaluz Alter: ca. 01/2018 Geschlecht: weiblich Schulterhöhe: ca 49cm Kastriert/Sterilisiert: Ja Aufenthalt / Ort: Marbella (Spanien) Anfrageformular Lucia – zartes Herz sucht einfühlsames Zuhause Lucia (*ca. 01/2018, ca. 49 cm) kam in einem schlechten Zustand in unser spanisches Partnertierheim Triple A Marbella. About Lucia

What life with Lucia looks like

Lucia is a small adult podenco dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
