Lucky

Female

Lucky is a 6-year-old, spayed Appenzeller female. She is intelligent, eager to work, and as a true character dog brings tremendous potential—given the right environment, she would be a wonderful addition to a household. In daily life, Lucky can be a relaxed companion. She walks well on leash, has a reliable recall, shows no prey drive, and remains calm when encountering other dogs. She also rides quietly in the car, and being left alone poses no problem for her. She gets along well with other dogs and is also familiar with cats and horses. Lucky is healthy and has no known allergies or sensitivities. She enjoys mental stimulation and already has some experience in obedience training and scent work; she wears her muzzle without any issues. Currently, Lucky is staying in a foster home after a biting incident occurred in her previous family, triggered by handling or touch-related situations. Since then, she has shown herself to be very cooperative in her foster home and has made significant progress. She can now enjoy cuddles from her trusted people. Work continues on her interactions with strangers, especially men, and clear improvements are evident here as well. True to her breed, Lucky displays a certain level of alertness: she is territorial and tends to bark readily in the garden. Additionally, she has a tendency to keep a watchful eye on her trusted people inside the house. This behavior is currently being successfully addressed through training. We are looking for a home for Lucky without children, with people who can provide clear, calm leadership and who are enthusiastic and willing to continue her training. If you would like to meet Lucky, please feel free to contact us by phone. Lucky can be met at her foster home in 71720 Oberstenfeld.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a large adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
