Adopt Nano

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Nano came to Germany as a young dog from Greece and was rehomed into a family. There, he also received companion dog training. He is an eager-to-learn dog who knows and reliably executes all basic commands. Nevertheless, while living with his family, Nano developed leash aggression and attacked both people and other dogs. He needs experienced people who know what they want, can set clear boundaries, and provide him with structure in daily life. In December 2022, he came to us at the animal shelter as a surrender. After initial difficulties, he has developed wonderfully. He is always very excited to see his trusted people, though he tends to become overly possessive. Depending on the situation, he’s also happy to approach unfamiliar people and enjoys being thoroughly petted. Nano walks very well on-leash and usually passes strangers and other dogs calmly on a loose leash. However, it’s crucial to be able to read his body language accurately during such encounters. In individual cases, he may react unfriendly. He is generally compatible with fellow animals, though not entirely conflict-averse. Therefore, at our shelter, we manage his interactions with other dogs carefully. Nano is accustomed to wearing a muzzle. In a new home, the muzzle should be used regularly, especially during the initial adjustment period. If you’d like to get to know Nano, we look forward to hearing from you. Walks well on a leash.

About Nano

What life with Nano looks like

Nano is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nano, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nano?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nano on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nano if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nano already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nano isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Winnenden e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nano and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
