Lucky

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Lucky is one of our most challenging cases – the friendly, people-oriented male was born in 2024 and stands about 50-55 cm tall. His life changed dramatically just before Christmas. The young dog was hit by a car in Prahova County and left severely injured. The worst part is that Lucky had to wait a long time for rescue. Fortunately, dedicated animal rescuers found him and brought him to veterinary care immediately. It wasn't until later that the full extent of the accident became clear: Lucky had shattered femur bones, severely damaged muscles and nerves, and complex fractures in the pelvic and hip area. The surgeon removed numerous loose bone fragments and did everything possible to patch Lucky up and give him a chance. Despite unimaginable pain, Lucky greeted his rescuers with a wagging tail and trust – as if he was simply grateful that someone had finally come to help him. Thanks to many supporters, Lucky could be operated on. His condition has stabilized, although the consequences of the accident will accompany him for the rest of his life. Further surgical options are currently scarce. Now it's about giving him the best possible quality of life and specifically promoting his remaining abilities. But Lucky wouldn't let that get him down. He wants to move, he wants to participate in life, and he does it out of his own motivation. He's happy about people, every bit of attention, and approaches his daily life with admirable joie de vivre. While we humans look at diagnoses, X-rays, and physical limitations, Lucky lives in the here and now. He shows every day anew how much life will, hope, and joy are still in him. Of course, Lucky will never be a dog for long hikes. But with the right people by his side, a suitable daily routine, and perhaps supportive physiotherapy, he learns to deal with his body in the best possible way and lead a happy dog life. What Lucky needs now is not pity. He needs people who don't see his past, but his future. People who say: "Look how much life is still in him!" A foster home or, better yet, a forever home would give this special young dog the chance to finally arrive. After everything he has experienced and endured so bravely, Lucky deserves it more than anything to be loved and experience the good things in life.

Was Lucky jetzt braucht, ist kein Mitleid.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
