Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

My name is Lucky and I have been waiting again for a home since the end of January 2014. This is what my caretakers say about me: Lucky, who came from a breeder in the nearby area, has now returned to us again after about one and a half years. His old problem made his very committed owners decide, with great reluctance, to separate. Occasionally, and seemingly suddenly, he bites. It affected friends, but also the family, even the owners who trained him diligently and achieved further success in basic obedience. He doesn't tear up, but he does bite properly. Despite this, they feel they are no longer up to the responsibility, especially since the cause is not clear to them. Here with us, as always, Lucky is cheerful and talkative, and he quickly found his way back to his old home. We suspect plenty of deficits during the imprinting phase of the dog, as Lucky is unfortunately not an isolated case. Inadequate experiences during this phase, which are essential for the dog's social behavior, have made the actually lovable dog into a problem dog. Who knows what was once deserved by him, one thing is a fact: he now has to pay for it, our animal welfare association gladly finances this for Lucky. We, as well as his previous adopters, know his lovable sides; at our animal shelter he has never been problematic, and there has never been an incident of biting, because in uncertain phases he is walked on a leash to avoid threatening situations. Nevertheless, this is different in a household compared to here, and this must be considered. We are looking for dog owners with experience in handling problem dogs, in a household without children. Preferably with a confident female dog that can put Lucky in his place. Physical activity and further training in combination with clear rules of conduct in the house are required. He can be left alone well, travels well by car, is house-trained, avoids cats, is compatible with other dogs (male dogs based on sympathy), and is well behaved on a leash. Lucky knows the basic commands, and he can also run off-leash in open terrain. In short, Lucky does not deserve to spend his life in the animal shelter for this kind of dog trading.

About Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter

What life with Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter looks like

Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky sucht erfahrene Halter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
