Adopt Phil

German Shepherd · Unknown · Senior · 10 years

Phil was successfully rehomed in 2022 through the HuKo project. Unfortunately, he returned to us after six months due to his owner's health issues. Originally, Phil joined our project in 2019. He was found tied to a tree in the forest. Research revealed that he came from Bulgaria to Germany in 2016. Once he has bonded with someone, he is very clingy and cuddly. However, he shows aggressive behavior towards unfamiliar people, especially on his territory. On walks, he is very relaxed, walks perfectly on the leash, and gets along well with other dogs. If you're looking for a dog who listens obediently and always works enthusiastically, Phil is not the right choice. He prefers to do his own thing. Generally, he is food-motivated and knows common commands. We wish for a quiet home for this male dog. Ideally, it would be a rural setting with one or two trusted people. Children and cats should not live in Phil's family. There should be an option for spatial separation (e.g., during visits). Interested individuals must plan to spend time and make multiple visits to get to know him, accompanied by our dog trainer. For more information, please contact dog trainer Jonas Brill at the animal shelter in Kaiserslautern. Email: dog training classes(at)animal shelter-kaiserslautern.de / .

Ursprünglich kam Phil 2019 in unser Projekt. E-Mail: Hundeschule(at)tierheim-kaiserslautern.de / .

About Phil

What life with Phil looks like

Phil is a senior german shepherd dog waiting at Tierschutzbund RLP e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Phil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Phil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund RLP e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Phil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Phil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund RLP e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Phil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Phil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund RLP e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Phil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
