Lucy

Chihuahua · Female · Senior · 11 years

Lucy is an affectionate 11 year old girl who is being rehomed through our Homestay scheme. She is fully housetrained and can be left for a few hours without issue, although we would always recommend building this up over time in a new home. While she can travel in the car, it’s not her favourite activity, as she has suffered from some car sickness in the past, so would ideally like a home where lots of driving isn’t essential. Lucy is a dear little soul who just needs a loving home where she can feel safe, could that home be yours? Lucy is a sweet but nervous Chihuahua cross Collie looking for a new home through no fault of her own. As an older girl, Lucy is looking for a quiet home where she can take things easy and relax. She could live with secondary school aged children, provided they are happy to give her some space when she needs it. Lucy is going to need a patient family, who are going to give her the time she needs to come out of her shell, we may also ask that potential adopters come to meet her at the centre a few times, just to make sure that she’s comfortable with them before they take her home. Lucy gets on well with some dogs, and will bark at and run away from others, she could potentially live with another calm dog, pending successful meets here at the centre. She does like to chase pigeons and cats though, so couldn’t live with cats or small furries.

About Lucy

What life with Lucy looks like

Lucy is a small senior chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Newbury in Newbury.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Newbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Newbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Newbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
