Lucy

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Lucy, likely born in early 2026, is a small Cocker Spaniel mix dog currently about 39 cm tall and weighing 7-8 kg. Lucy is a very social and friendly young dog. She is very people-oriented, actively seeks contact and enjoys attention. Unfortunately, Lucy did not have an easy start in life: she was found with a fracture in the rear area and taken to the vet. The fracture - probably in the hip area, the information on this is unfortunately incomplete - was stabilized with pins. However, a necessary follow-up check did not take place. Currently, Lucy walks very unsteady, and it is likely that she will need to be operated again. The medical possibilities for complicated bone surgery are unfortunately very limited on Crete. We would be very happy if someone were to find Lucy a home despite her health handicap and also has the financial means for the necessary further treatment. Lucy would really deserve to finally be properly cared for and start a carefree dog life. We do not mediate in very urban living situations or in families with small children. Please only submit an adoption request if the takeover is possible at the time mentioned in the text & you have already discussed the adoption of a new family member with your family (if necessary other involved persons such as employer, landlord, interim care). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their large-scale care facility or in the animal shelter in a limited, safe environment and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their character. For a successful settling in a new home, they need time, patience and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and the various stimuli and grow into confident dogs.

About Lucy

What life with Lucy looks like

Lucy is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
