Lucy

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Young · 1 year

Lucy came into our care through no fault of her own, along with her puppies. The puppies have all been rehomed now and after some patience, love and care Lucy is now ready to find her forever home. She is still very shy and scared if she doesn’t know you and will shout at you if you visit her in her kennel. Once she knows you, outside of the kennel, she is a very affectionate girl. She gets very excited to see you, so will jump all over you. She likes her treats which is a good way to help her build her confidence around new people. Lucy loves a run around in the compound area or walks in the woods. She is going to need an active family and plenty of mental stimulation to keep her occupied. Lucy is looking for a very experienced home, with a family that have had nervous rescue dogs before. She is going to need a lot of patience and potential adopters are going to need to be able to commit to multiple meets before she goes home. Lucy is still just a young dog herself so will need all of the basic training and socialisation when she goes home. Lucy has the potential to be a lovely family dog but she does require time and work to help her reach this point. Due to her being so nervous she needs to be in an adult only home with no visiting children.

About Lucy

What life with Lucy looks like

Lucy is a medium-sized young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) in Warrington.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lucy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
