Malia

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Adult · 8 years

Malia is a sporty and energetic female dog who loves to move around a lot. She knows the basic commands, can easily pass by joggers and cyclists, and enjoys car rides. Additionally, she is a water rat. Her leash manners still need some work; she can be very stubborn and outwardly focused. When meeting strangers, she is initially mistrustful and does not like to be touched. It takes time and patience to build her trust. Once she warms up, she is very close and cuddly with her people, and she also likes to be attentive to them. She is very insecure about her basic nature but tries to hide it by finding everything new comical and closely observing what happens. In a familiar environment, she shows territorial tendencies. She needs people who take her behavior seriously and provide her with enough security so she can relax and feel that things are being managed for her. Ball games and tug-of-war are not suitable for Malia; she gets overly excited, as she reacts strongly to movement. Her energy should be better managed through guided physical activity or mental exercises with the appropriate amount of rest! Rest and relaxation are really important for her mental well-being. In interactions with other dogs, she is very overexcited because she lacks experience and still needs to learn how to behave properly. Children, cats, and small animals should not be her new roommates. Otherwise, she is a quiet representative at home, as long as no strangers visit, of course. She is looking for dog-experienced people who can show her clear structures and firm rules to which she can orient herself with love and consistency. Additionally, you should live in the countryside; city life overloads her. If you can meet these requirements, Malia will surely be a great companion who goes through thick and thin with you, but she will never be a simple dog and should always be looked at with more than just a casual glance... We would be delighted if Malia finally finds her perfect match!

DE·Show original

About Malia

What life with Malia looks like

Malia is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
