Luna

Female

Luna is a 14-year-old medium-sized female dog who has always lived with one male owner. They lived in a small village, always together, and their world was limited to their home and the village. When her owner passed away, their life together came to an end. Luna is not very accustomed to new situations. She is a bit of a mysterious dog who doesn't easily open up. Despite being unaccustomed to new situations, she has adapted remarkably well to life in our dog center. She is not a playful, trainable, or cuddly dog, and she doesn't visibly look forward to our arrival, but once outside, on a field or on a walk, you can see her enjoying herself. On the fields, she gets lost in all the smells and loves to roll in the grass, and the walks can't be long enough for her. If she can occasionally take a few galloping strides, she thinks that's just great. She is a dog that likes to go her own way. She walks with other dogs on the field but doesn't really seek them out. Luna is an introverted loner who keeps to herself. She is a calm guest who loves car rides, can be alone, and walks nicely on a leash. She doesn't bother other dogs or animals. She may initially react with some fear to children and strangers. Luna is not a playful dog, but she is polite, calm, respectful, and patient. Luna lives in our dog center in Den Ham. If you are interested in her, please email us and tell us why she would fit into your life. Please also include your phone number.

Luna woont in ons hondencentrum in Den Ham.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Koninklijke Hondenbescherming in Den Haag.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Koninklijke Hondenbescherming handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Koninklijke Hondenbescherming will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Koninklijke Hondenbescherming early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
