Adopt Lydia + Basti

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

"Gentle Dog Duo" Gender: female, neutered, and male, neutered ID: 254487 or 254488 Date of Birth: September 2014 or December 2016 Size: both knee-high Time in shelter: since April 2024 Dog-friendly: likely yes Older siblings in the same household: possible Larger, calm children may be possible Home sought: outskirts or countryside, house with a garden preferred The friendly, 2014 or 2016 born mixed-breed pair Lydia (black) and Basti (white) have been inseparable for seven years. The two are people-friendly and walk calmly by other dogs on a leash. We suspect they are also dog-friendly, but need to verify this. Although they haven't learned much in their previous life, they already know the basic commands. For these two loves, we seek a quiet home in the outskirts or countryside, with a house and garden preferred. Since Lydia and Basti react uncertainly to new stimuli, they are likely too overwhelmed by a stairwell entrance to an apartment. As Lydia and Basti are older and in a pair, they can also be taken in by people who will care for them.

„Gemütliches Hunde-Duo“ Geschlecht: weiblich, kastriert und männlich, kastriert Tiernr.: 254487 bzw. 254488 Geburtsdatum: Sept. 2014 bzw.

About Lydia + Basti

What life with Lydia + Basti looks like

Lydia + Basti is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lydia + Basti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lydia + Basti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lydia + Basti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lydia + Basti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lydia + Basti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lydia + Basti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lydia + Basti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
