Adopt Coco

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 8 years

Coco -geb. July 2018 – 238350 “perfect all-rounder with a thick skull” Breed: Am. Staffordshire Terrier Gender: male, neutered Date of Birth: July 2018 In the animal shelter since: October 2020 Gets along with dogs: yes, Social Walks possible Gets along with cats: no Children in the same household: no Home sought: rural, preferably a house with a garden, without children or other animals (prey drive) The 2018-born handsome American Staffordshire Terrier Coco needs a short time to warm up to new people. Coco knows life in an apartment, is house-trained, could also be left alone in his last home, walks nicely on a leash, and rides nicely in the car. For the initial phase in the new home, the handsome fellow should have his own retreat area. “I've been waiting in the animal shelter for several years already, but if you take it slow with me, I'm a pretty nice guy. I don't have any problems with other dogs; I always walk confidently past them – sniffing the roadside as if reading the newspaper is more important to me. I'm also sovereign in dealing with environmental stimuli; they don't faze me. I just want to observe everything and everyone for a long and thorough time before I then walk on with a relaxed pace. The time for 'continue' is something I like to determine myself, as everything needs to slowly sink into my brain – my godmother always says I'm a 'dickschädel' when I don't want to continue immediately, as she does. I love walks – especially where there are many cat tracks – or indoor games like Activity and tasks, like being sent to the rug. As long as there are treats and lots of affection. Additionally, I have a lot of fun splashing in the stream in summer. Although I can swim, I prefer to feel the ground under my feet. If you're interested, please get in touch!“

Coco -geb.

About Coco

What life with Coco looks like

Coco is a large adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Wiener Tierschutzverein in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs time to warm up to new people, requires patient introduction period and own retreat space initially

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wiener Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wiener Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wiener Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
