Adopt Lykos

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Lykos who is now named Yoshi (rehomed) was one of three puppies we discovered during our last work shift at the animal shelter in Santorini. We brought the three siblings to Germany, and Lykos had the good fortune of being adopted very quickly. We wish him and his new family a fun and happy time together. Posts and pictures from his new home are further below. 😉 Post from his new home, dear Mrs. Schreiber, the little guy has been with us for a few days now, and there's a bit more to report. Lykos goes to Lia every day for play and cuddle time, and the two are like one heart and one soul. But at home, he's getting more and more lively, gnawing on everything (cables, plants, yellow garbage bags, and anything within his reach), carrying everything he can reach into his dog bed, but then readily trading it back for his toys. So the robber is learning to clean up:). During our walks, he doesn't do any business because everything along the way is still too interesting, but when we get back home, he immediately wants to go to the garden. Here, he has two potty spots and a hidden place for his big business. He's been sleeping through since the first day (with Janine in the bed) and needs to be woken up in the morning. With the dogs living in the neighborhood, he gets along very well and was already accepted into the street pack, although he shows a lot of fear and starts to growl when around larger dogs. So far, however, he always calms down after a few minutes and often ends up playing with them. Since his little sister is clearly his favorite playmate, we'll continue the daily visits, as he's not yet so enthusiastic about the huge dogs (like horses) and prefers to explore the garden with Lia or cuddle during this time. Jeanny had made me a little worried yesterday because despite increased affection, she seemed very depressed. But this morning, she was back to her old self and even kept looking to see if Lykos was also there. Our tomcat also works well with him, as he is indeed a very gentle puppy. Only when he starts his play attacks does the tomcat get agitated. Lykos is, in general, a very, very well-behaved and lovable little guy whom we don't want to miss a second of. We've now decided to name him Yoshi, as he sounds much better with the 'i' at the end of Jeanny's name. What about little Lars? Has he overcome the separation or is he still grieving? We're still looking for a good place for him. Lots of love, also to your husband, your mother, and all the four-legged friends. Here are a few pictures. Click an image to enlarge.

Was macht denn der kleine Lars?

About Lykos

What life with Lykos looks like

Lykos is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lykos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lykos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lykos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lykos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lykos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lykos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lykos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
