Lyra

Female

Sweet little Lyra is absolutely delightful! She was found in the streets of Macedonia by one of our rescuers. She was owned by a very poor family with a mentally disabled son, and they sadly dumped her when she was in the heat, as it is so often the case. Our rescuer couldn’t look the other way, knowing what a miserable life Lyra was going to have as a stray, and she took the sweet girl into foster care. Luckily now Lyra has travelled to the UK where she is in excellent foster care. Lyra has been diagnosed with patella luxation and we are waiting for further information about her condition and the necessary treatment. Lyra is an absolute sweetheart, gets along great with other dogs and cats as well, she is friendly with everyone and will be a wonderful addition to any family, with time enough for a young active dog. She is already house trained and walks fairly well on a lead. Lyra can live with dog savvy children. Please reach out if you would like to welcome this little bundle of joy into your home! Spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated.

About Lyra

What life with Lyra looks like

Lyra is a small adult dog waiting at Strays Without Borders in Skopje.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇲🇰Adopting from North Macedonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lyra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lyra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Strays Without Borders handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lyra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lyra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Strays Without Borders will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lyra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lyra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Strays Without Borders early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lyra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
