Mabel

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Β· Female Β· Young Β· 3 years

Mabel is looking for a home with loving and active adopters who can take her on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help her settle in and give her all the love and attention she deserves. She is a sweet girl who can live with older secondary school children who are confident around bouncy and playful dogs, who will understand that she can be a little clumsy when excited, who will play with her nicely and will give her space to rest when needed. Mabel can be a little frustrated around other dogs and can be a little over the top so would prefer to be the only dog in the home, she would however be happy with confident and playful walking buddies. Mabel is a clever but busy girl, once she has had a good play she could engage in training in short, sweet sessions as long as a tasty treat is on offer. Mabel would like her own private, secure garden where she can spend play time so she can burn off some energy. She does tend to worry when left so is looking for someone home the majority of the time, especially to begin with, any leaving time would need to be built up slowly once she has had time to settle into her new home. Mabel will need to meet her adopters a few times prior to going home so please bear this in mind when applying. Meet Mabel, the 3 year old Staffy cross Golden Retriever who is just an absolute ray of sunshine! She is a playful pudding and loves squishy toys, she will chase around after them and throw them in the air, then she will roll around with them like a goof, legs in the air. This pawsome pooch has lots of energy and enjoys doing big zoomie burn offs before coming in for snuggles, she will lean all over you for fusses, especially a back or bum scratch, she will wander off when she is done. This super fun girl is looking for a home to call her own.

About Mabel

What life with Mabel looks like

Mabel is a large young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mabel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mabel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mabel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mabel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mabel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mabel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mabel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
