Boss

Border Collie · Male · Young · 2 years

Boss is looking for a calm and predictable home with loving and active adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and care he deserves. He is a sweet boy who takes a little time to warm up to new people, so could live with older secondary school children who will give him time to build a relationship and give him space to rest and relax when needed. Boss could live with a calm and confident dog who will co-exist with him and engage in occasional play, this will be pending successful meets at the centre. Although living with a dog is not a necessity, he would be happy with calm and polite walking buddies who will give him space to explore at his leisure. Boss is a super smart boy and loves to use his brain, so is eager to engage in training if a tasty treat is on offer. He would like a home with a private, secure garden for him to have some quality time pottering about off lead at his leisure as he will need to be on a lead at all times in public. Boss can settle as long as he has some fun enrichment to keep his clever mind busy, so could be left for up to 4 hours. any leaving time would need to be built up slowly once he has had time to settle into his new home. Boss will need to meet his adopters a few times prior to going home, so please bear all of this in mind when applying. Super smart and playful Boss is a 2 and a half year old Border Collie with a thirst for knowledge and a need to learn and use his brain. This fun guy loves nothing more than an epic game of fetch, he will chase after his ball and bring it back to you for hours if you let him. He is an outdoorsy boy, with his nose to the ground he will happily sniff and explore everything around him. He likes a gentle fuss, a back scratch is his favourite, he does need you to keep checking in to make sure he is still comfortable. This super sweet lad is ready to find his new home.

About Boss

What life with Boss looks like

Boss is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boss, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boss?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boss on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boss if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Boss already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boss isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boss and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
