Adopt Madox

Cane Corso · Male · Adult · 6 years

Cane Corso Italiano uncastrated male dog, born 2020 | Height: 74 cm | Weight: 58 kg | Children: yes | Cats: yes | Dogs: yes, vaccinated and microchipped, available for adoption. This animal can be adopted if there is suitable space after sufficient getting-to-know periods. Madox is an uncastrated Cane Corso male dog born in April 2020, who was given up to the animal shelter due to the separation from his owners. The handsome fellow lived in a rural area with a cat in a house with a garden. He had contact with children aged 3 and 5, but direct living together is something he is not familiar with. Madox can stay alone for an appropriate amount of time and is well house-trained. Madox has enjoyed basic training and goes quite well on the leash. Whether meeting people, cyclists, or other dogs, he handles it bravely. He has been accustomed to wearing a muzzle and driving is also no problem for him. Madox shows a friendly and nice demeanor in the animal shelter after a few getting-to-know minutes. In direct contact with other dogs, his preference is for females over males. Madox already brings construction sites with him in terms of health. As a large and heavy breed, he is prone to joint problems and is certainly no longer a sportsman. He enjoys walks and benefits from targeted exercise. He shows food intolerance, but it is well under control. On his right eye, he has a "Cherry Eye" (ectopic nictitating gland), which was operated on by the previous owner but has recurred.

About Madox

What life with Madox looks like

Madox is a large adult cane corso cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Madox, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Madox?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Madox on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Madox if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Madox already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Madox isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Madox and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
