Adopt Mads

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · 3 years

Hello, I am Mads. I always try to please my people. New situations make me very afraid, and I need a lot of comfort then. I am very people-oriented, especially if I know them well. Then I love being cuddled – I can get a bit stormy with joy. With men, I am a bit more skeptical for longer. Women, however, I quickly open my heart to. I ended up in the animal shelter because something really stupid happened. You see, when I get food in my bowl, I don't know anything else. "Resource defense" they call it. And that's when I bit the other dog. When my previous owner tried to intervene, I unfortunately also bit her. If my bowl is empty, I don't have any problems. I also take treats without any problems, and I love many and often! It would be good if my new people are familiar with dogs – also with my breed. And a good feeding plan would help to prevent something like this from happening again. That's why I should also be better kept alone, even though I really like dogs. Children should also not be in my home. Safety first. The city could be a good fit for me. As I belong to the so-called "listen dogs," you definitely need a rental permit. Phew, that's a lot. Is there still someone who would like to meet me? That would be really great! Best, call my animal caretakers or fill out the form below.

Mads

About Mads

What life with Mads looks like

Mads is a medium-sized adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding behavior - needs careful feeding management and experienced handler

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mads, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mads?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mads on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mads if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mads already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mads isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mads and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
