Adopt Magaluf

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Magaluf is what one literally calls a handful of dogs. The friendly senior is even small for a Chihuahua mix and is now looking for a suitable cuddly bed for a wonderful retirement. We don't know Magalufs story, but his foster family reports that the very nice, approximately 10-year-old (as of 12/2022) male dog certainly knows life in a house and is very open to cuddles and soft cookies. Yes, Magaluf only likes soft treats, because at some point in his previous life he probably had an accident or was beaten, because his jaw is broken and he's missing some teeth. No one took care that the injury healed properly, and so Magalufs face is a bit out of shape and he has trouble with hard foods, but he has no pain at all and doesn't need any treatment anymore. "A small, actually fit senior with a small, non-intrusive disability - how did such a hassle-free senior end up in the animal shelter?", you might wonder. Well, he was thrown over the fence. That sounds as cruel as it is, because a free-roaming dog could have killed the "intruder" at any time, Magaluf is easy prey even for a poodle and for any dog living in a pack it would be normal behavior to drive away a stranger. Since there was no way to escape with the gate closed, Magaluf would have been condemned to death. Not to mention that our senior could have suffered severe injuries from his fall and would have been discovered too late by our partners in the worst case. Fortunately, Magaluf has survived everything well and is now waiting with a very loving foster family, until special people become interested in him and would like to give him a few more beautiful years in the circle of a family that loves him. Our senior gets along well with other (calm) dogs, he gets along with cats and has no problems with children who understand that they have to be a little more careful with an older small dog. So please consider for a moment whether Magaluf might not enjoy the autumn of his life on your couch cushion ...

About Magaluf

What life with Magaluf looks like

Magaluf is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Magaluf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Magaluf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Magaluf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Magaluf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Magaluf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Magaluf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Magaluf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
