Maila

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 5 years

Our Maila is a curious and attentive female dog who loves to be on the go and explore her surroundings. Long walks are her absolute favorite activities—especially when she gets to sniff and search extensively. She enjoys nose work and search games, which are wonderful ways to keep her mentally engaged. Maila greets people with friendliness and openness. She doesn’t have a problem with strangers either. While she does show interest in cyclists and joggers, she remains approachable and keeps a safe distance. On the leash, Maila is generally already quite pleasant and walks mostly calmly. She occasionally pulls a bit, but she quickly adjusts when worked with calmly and consistently. As she becomes more relaxed, her orientation to her primary caregiver also improves. The command “Sit” is firmly in Maila’s repertoire. Other basic commands are familiar to her, but need to be reinforced further—especially under distraction. Currently, dog encounters still pose a challenge. Maila reacts strongly excitedly to other dogs and finds it difficult to calm down after such situations. She needs people who can provide her with security and work with her patiently, calmly, and with clear guidance. Overall, it’s still not easy for Maila to truly unwind. She is often still very active and in motion. However, she is showing nice progress and is beginning to enjoy closeness and cuddles, allowing for small moments of relaxation. For Maila, we wish to find active and empathetic people who enjoy working together with her to gradually instill more security, orientation, and inner calm in her daily life.

About Maila

What life with Maila looks like

Maila is a medium-sized adult german shepherd dog waiting at Kreistierheim Böblingen in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Böblingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Böblingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Böblingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
