Adopt Maja

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Hello, my name is Maja, I am a few-year-old, very strong female dog of the American Staffordshire Terrier breed. Unfortunately, my story is long and complicated. As a puppy, I ended up in an animal shelter in Gdansk and already then I had serious skin problems. I was adopted as a 10-month-old female dog by a family from Gdansk. Unfortunately, due to the inability to provide proper care during my owner's trips abroad, they looked for a new home for me. The next home also had to give me back due to the child's allergy. In my third home, I stayed only two weeks because the newborn also had a severe allergy. My fourth home also did not last long due to the arrest of my next owner, but he managed to pass me on to another person who did not provide me with proper supervision. Therefore, on September 11, 2022, I bit a dog on Floriana street, which was walking with its owner, and thus I ended up in an animal shelter. Neglected, skin in an untreated disease, ear problems, irritated spaces between the toes, hair loss, incredible itching. Of course, my stay in the animal shelter did not go without a visit to the Veterinary Center. There, I had tests done and treatment was prescribed. I lived alone in a cage in the animal shelter. I enjoy every visit, whether it is an employee who comes to tidy my cage, or a caregiver who takes care of building a good relationship with the staff or a volunteer who takes me for a moment of forgetfulness, that is, a walk. Or just simply comes and sits next to me. You don't even know how important this is for me. We dogs are very thirsty for contact with you, people. You accustom us to yourself, and then when you are gone, we close ourselves off. I probably was born under a dark star and fate does not favor me. From puppyhood I have been wandering the world, unwanted, passed from family to family. It is really hard for me to say whether I know what it is like to have a real family, you probably understand why. In general, I really like people, I am happy to see them. I am very strong, so my caregiver must be an experienced person. In my cage I have toys and a blanket, in perfect condition. I politely take my medication. I have been spayed. If you want to find out more about me, write: or call the number. Actually, my entire life has been dealing with skin problems and I receive Vetoskin and Apoquel every day. Monthly cost:

Tam wykonano mi badania i dobrano leczenie. My psy jesteśmy bardzo spragnieni kontaktu z Wami, ludźmi. Przyzwyczajacie nas do siebie, a potem kiedy was zabraknie, my zamykamy się w sobie.

About Maja

What life with Maja looks like

Maja is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Zabrze in Zabrze.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Zabrze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Zabrze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Zabrze early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
