Maki

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Maki is approximately 1.5 years old and was found abandoned in Cista Provo, Croatia. She was extremely fearful and initially wouldn't let anyone near her, so she had to be secured. It was noticed that Maki was constantly drooling. At first, it was thought this was due to her fear - but then it was discovered that a piece of metal was stuck in her gum. 😔 After her rescue, Maki was taken to the public animal shelter. However, the sensitive dog suffered greatly from the unrest, noise, and situation in the kennel. Just like Bartul, she couldn't settle down there. Therefore, our animal rights activist brought Maki and Bartul to her kennel, where it is much quieter and both receive more personal care and attention. Since then, Maki has shown more and more what a great dog she is. ❤️ She is playful, affectionate, and people-oriented, but also sensitive and initially a bit shy with new things. Once she has gained trust, she enjoys the closeness to her humans very much. Maki gets along well with male and female dogs, already walks well on a leash, and enjoys car rides. As a shepherd dog mix, Maki is intelligent, attentive, and eager to learn and wants to orientate herself towards her humans. At the same time, shepherd dogs are often sensitive dogs that perceive changes and stress very clearly. Therefore, we are looking for people for Maki who know what it means to keep a shepherd dog and who give her time to settle in after arrival. The long journey, unfamiliar people, and a completely new environment can be a lot for a sensitive dog at first. Therefore, it can be that she reacts uncertainly or stressed at first. With calmness, patience, loving consistency, and clear guidance, Maki becomes a wonderful companion who wants to bond closely with her humans. ❤️ Maki has experienced enough uncertainty in her young life. Now we wish for her people where she can finally arrive and who give her the chance she so greatly deserves.

DE·Show original

About Maki

What life with Maki looks like

Maki is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
