Makita

Mixed Breed Cat · Unknown · 3 months

Makita came into our care after she was found straying on a construction site. Thankfully, a kind member of the public brought her safely to Thornberry, where she could begin to settle and feel safe. Makita is a very shy girl and will need a calm, quiet home where her new owners are prepared to give her the space, patience and time she needs to build trust. She is slowly beginning to trust us here at Thornberry, and we hope that with the right person, she will continue to gain confidence and show more of her lovely personality. Makita’s new family will need to understand that she may not be an immediately cuddly or confident cat. She will need someone who is happy to let her come out of her shell at her own pace, without pressure. With patience, kindness and consistency, we hope she will blossom into a much more confident girl. As Makita was found as a stray, she will need outdoor access in her new home. If you have a calm household and the patience to give a shy cat the time she deserves, Makita could be the special girl you’ve been waiting for. ❤️🐱

About Makita

What life with Makita looks like

Makita is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Makita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Makita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Thornberry Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Makita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Makita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Thornberry Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Makita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Makita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Thornberry Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Makita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
