adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Makoa has found his luck. His story: Unfortunately, Makoa has to leave his family after over a year. As a cheerful and friendly puppy, he arrived, showing himself to be good and relaxed, but his family is now overwhelmed with him and he must therefore move out. We are looking for someone for the great male dog who offers him security and understanding and provides the necessary support. His family describes him as follows: Makoa is an attentive, person-oriented male dog who immediately sees his surroundings as his territory and defends it accordingly. He is a lively wild guy with a lot of energy and determination. Outdoors, he runs relatively relaxed on a leash, and in the forest or field, he also goes without a leash and can be called back 90% of the time. He does not hunt and does not simply run into the forest. He very much enjoys search games and fetching – that is, work that exhausts him. In group dog training, Makoa is very restless and impulsive, which often led to a lot of stress for him. In individual training, it worked well, but what he learned is often questioned again. When he is overwhelmed, he shows this through growling. Basic commands like sit, stay, come, and lie down he performs well, but not always reliably. One should still practice with him and work with rewards. Unfortunately, Makoa has not managed to be alone until today. He is very stressed, barks continuously, and is then completely exhausted. Therefore, one should not expect this from him at first, but start with him in complete peace when he has fully arrived in his new family. He can be alone in the car for a short time. He likes to ride in cars. And he always wants to be near his people. Encounters with other dogs are very different, sometimes friendly, sometimes strongly unsettled. Also, contact with strangers is sometimes difficult, as he also shows insecurity on the leash. Currently, we are looking for a quiet home for him without children. He is house-trained and goes out three times a day, with one larger round of about 1.5 hours when he has to go out, he reliably signals when he needs to go out. Cars, bicycles, roller skates, etc., do not stress him during walks. He is currently about 1.5 years old and around 50 cm tall, weighing about 15 kg. Makoa is not neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, or treated for fleas. After a positive assessment, he urgently needs a new place, preferably a foster home. Many thanks, Carla! You gave Makoa his name. As of: 23.10.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Carla! Du hast Makoa seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 23.10.2024

About Makoa

What life with Makoa looks like

Makoa is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Makoa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Makoa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Makoa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Makoa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Makoa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Makoa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Makoa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
