Adopt Maks

Male · Senior · 9 years

Maks is an adult German Shepherd. We know that he needs time to trust new people - at first, he keeps his distance and carefully observes his surroundings. He feels best with a calm, non-intrusive contact. However, when he feels safe, he shows a completely different side: he becomes a sociable, affectionate companion who eagerly seeks closeness and highly values the relationship with a person. In our opinion, this is a dog that builds a bond slowly, but consciously and for a long time. Maks, despite his noble age, has a lot of energy. On walks, he walks confidently and steadily, likes movement and activity. He feels good in the company of other adult dogs - he can walk with them and establish a calm, balanced contact. We are looking for an experienced caregiver for him, preferably in a quiet home without small children and cats. Maks has had difficult experiences, so today he most needs stability, predictability, and a home where he will find a true sense of security.

Maks to dojrzały pies w typie owczarka niemieckiego.

About Maks

What life with Maks looks like

Maks is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Needs time to build trust, requires stable and predictable environment due to difficult past experiences

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
