Adopt Malak

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 4 years

Malak arrived at the shelter following a seizure by authorities as part of an eviction related to a Diogenes syndrome. Unfortunately, her past is even heavier: after being placed in another shelter with her puppies, she was retrieved by her previous owners... without her babies. This abrupt separation deeply affected her and contributed to making her unstable and defensive. Today, Malak needs time to feel confident. But once this bond is created, it is strong and lasting, even if she can have preferences among humans. Behind her difficult story lies a lively dog: very playful, energetic, she loves to chase toys and play tug-of-war. In moments of excitement, she can make impressive vocalizations, close to growling, and redirected bites may appear. Therefore, support will be necessary to help her better manage her emotions. On walks, Malak is a great companion. She is still discovering the world, having been walked very little before, and continues to learn what it means to be a dog comfortable in her paws. She is also a food lover, although stress can sometimes decrease her interest in food. Regarding health, she tolerates handling well and wears the muzzle without difficulty, used as a precaution. She has skin issues requiring a specific diet, and possibly wearing a cone during crisis periods. A veterinary follow-up will be needed. Malak could get along with other dogs, provided for positive introductions at the shelter. She does not know cats so far. Regarding children, we will prefer a home with children old enough to understand and respect her need for space and her signals.

About Malak

What life with Malak looks like

Malak is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
