Mandarina

Female · Adult · 9 years

Mandarina is a female EKH (European Shorthair) cat, born around January 2017. Her behavior towards dogs is unknown, and she is not known to be compatible with children or cats. Mandarina has been waiting for six years for someone to tell her, "Let's go home!" But when you are as anxious as she is, when you have gone through such difficult times, it is hard to trust. For a long time, Mandarina lived on the streets, fighting for survival every day. But her body could not handle the stress. Her gastrointestinal tract was so inflamed that she had constant bloody diarrhea. This led to a bowel prolapse. Most street cats die a slow, agonizing death, invisible and silent. Mandarina was incredibly lucky because she was found. Her condition was so bad that she had to undergo emergency surgery. For days, the people at Animaleas worried about Mandarina's life. And the little fighter made it. Against all odds, she survived and recovered. And now? Yes, she is safe, but still invisible. Can no one find someone who wants to give an older, shy cat a chance? She has fought so hard. She deserves it so much, to finally learn that hands can be caressing. She doesn't need much. Just a person. That's enough for her. A small piece of a world at peace for a broken cat soul. Do you want to give Mandarina a home? Do you understand that she is very shy and probably won't let you touch her for a long time? Are you willing to give her the time she needs to gain some courage? Oh, that's wonderful! Check out our homepage and fill out the self-disclosure form. We will contact you. And a general request to all cat owners: Please have your cats spayed or neutered! Street cats usually come from the uncontrolled mating of unsterilized outdoor cats. Nobody wants to take care of the kittens, and they rarely survive longer than six months on the streets. Cars, diseases, parasites, and cruel people are deadly for these poor souls. Help prevent cat suffering by having your cats spayed or neutered! Thank you!

Danke!

About Mandarina

What life with Mandarina looks like

Mandarina is a adult cat waiting at Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mandarina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mandarina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mandarina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mandarina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mandarina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mandarina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mandarina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
