Mano

Mixed Breed Β· Male Β· Puppy Β· 6 months

Character: Mano is a sweet little guy with short legs. 😑 He is not a show-off. At home in his own bubble, with his own people and his own dogs, he feels comfortable, playful, cheerful, and completely at ease. Outside, he finds many things, especially cyclists and pedestrians, and unfamiliar big or busy dogs can be scary, especially if the environment is busier. He can then become a bit upset (due to stress), but with support from another dog from his family. Alone, he doesn't do this, and this behavior is quite well manageable for Mano. It is important to keep this in check so that any outburst behavior does not become a habit and does not get worse. He can usually meet most dogs, despite this behavior when they approach. Behavior at home: In the first days with his foster family, Mano was very shy, but after about 2 weeks, this has changed very positively. He comes to you easily on his own. However, he still finds it a bit scary if you go directly towards him. Mano likes to lie next to you on the couch and enjoys being brushed. If there is no time to give him attention, Mano accepts this perfectly. Then he sleeps, plays with the other dogs or toys. As a pup, he needs a lot of sleep, and as a pup who has already experienced so much and has to process many new impressions, even more so. Mano is a soft dog, both literally and figuratively. He needs gentle, positive guidance and people who give him the time and space to gradually discover more of the world. His foster family lets him have as many positive experiences as possible, which means that all sorts of situations that are likely (too) stressful for him are avoided as much as possible. Exactly as we like to see! First invest a good amount of time in building up confidence step by step; that patience pays off later in double! Mano is also literally soft: his beautiful coat requires proper care so that no tangles or matting occur. Mano does not mind being brushed or having his nails trimmed (once he knows and trusts you). Mano is not yet fully housebroken and requires some attention and patience. He has a strange preference for peeing on the (fabric) couch, so some acceptance of such accidents from time to time is necessary. This behavior will eventually fade away, and if you pay attention, you can prevent it. A waterproof blanket on the couch is also a good solution, especially at times when you cannot properly watch him. Visitors at home are a bit stressful. When they arrive, he may bark for a moment. With good guidance, he lies down at a distance and then falls asleep. He doesn't feel the need to make contact the first time; in itself a great quality. In Mano's foster family, there are no cats. Outside, he can run barking at a cat, but he is well guided. We think he can live with social cats if it is properly guided. Mano has not yet been alone at home, but he remains calm when his foster family leaves the room for a while. Then he is with the other dogs. Incidentally, he is particularly good at climbing; he climbs out of a puppy pen 80 cm high!

Mano is inmiddels zindeljk.

About Mano

What life with Mano looks like

Mano is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window β€” house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mano, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mano?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mano on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mano if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mano already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mano isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mano and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
