Marc & Jan

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Marc & Jan, born around March/April, were found together with their mom and siblings. They’re calm, reserved, and still a bit shy. Hello—we’re Marc and Jan. Together with our mom, we were found in Gnarrenburg and have been living at the cat house since June. New people and unfamiliar situations still make us feel a bit uncertain. That’s why we usually observe our surroundings from a safe distance first. Right now, we don’t really enjoy being petted yet. Although we already tolerate it and are slowly getting used to human closeness, building trust simply takes a bit more time for us. With calmness, patience, and a secure home, though, we’ll definitely learn to trust. It would be especially lovely if we could move into a new home together with a sibling. Alternatively, we’d also love to find a home with a young, social cat or a friendly dog. If you’d like to get to know us better, please give Birgit Hartung-Berkhan a call at 04298 46 777 26 or send us a self-disclosure form.

About Marc & Jan

What life with Marc & Jan looks like

Marc & Jan is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Lilienthal in Grasberg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marc & Jan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marc & Jan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Lilienthal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marc & Jan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marc & Jan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Lilienthal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marc & Jan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marc & Jan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Lilienthal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marc & Jan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
