Marco

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Marco is also one of the four siblings who were rescued as puppies. Ever since that day he has been waiting in the shelter, and so he knows nothing other than this very place. No home, no walks, no people who are there just for him. Who could blame him, then, for viewing the world and unfamiliar people with caution and shyness? At about 50 cm, Marco is a rather cautious young dog. His reserve is the result of a life that, until now, has consisted only of the shelter. That is exactly why Marco now urgently needs a chance: a home or a foster placement where he is allowed to settle in. A place where he can learn about life anew and discover it at his own pace, without pressure, with patience and loving companionship. Visit update, August 2026: Marco is still very insecure and prefers to stay in his kennel, where he feels protected and can safely observe visitors. But it is precisely there that he is not making progress; he needs people who will help him find his way out of this small world. We are looking for an experienced foster carer for Marco who will work with him, give him security, and show him how beautiful life can be. With patience, calm, and clear structure, he can step by step build trust. A confident first dog would be a great help to him: a dog who shows him how everyday life works, how trust grows, and how lovely closeness can be. Marco has so much potential, so much gentleness, and so much undiscovered strength. Now he only needs someone who will open the door for him to a real life. Marco is neutered and vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. General note on our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behaviour and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions, may show itself differently. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behaviour in a new setting. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Marco

What life with Marco looks like

Marco is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Marco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
