Marea

Mixed Breed · Female

Marea is a very special dog for very special people. The beautiful one-year-old is a very successful mix of Podenco and Sabueño Español. The Sabueño is a confident hunting dog and is often used by the police in Spain as a tracking and search dog. Marea was found by our friends in a field where she was living a very sad life in a small kennel. During the conversation with Mareas owner, it quickly became clear that he had no interest in his female dog - and the only way to protect the grateful snuggle ball from being shot or abandoned was to immediately and with ears flapping pack her into the car and bring her to the animal shelter. Marea is already enjoying her new life and has quickly transformed from a shy girl into a cheerful and very social teenager. She plays and runs around with her new friends, and even more delighted when volunteers have time to really rub her fur or even go for a walk with her. Marea looks great, and of course she is also extremely cute - but her amazing gene pool is not suitable for everyone. We are looking for hunting dog experienced people who appreciate her smart mind, her fantastic nose, and her athletic side. Marea is a perfect decorative couch cushion in the evening after work, but she wants to earn her rest periods and cuddles. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, if you are even thinking about a career on the agility field or want to accompany your best friend in tracking work, if you know (or are ready to learn in an appropriate dog training classes), how to train, challenge and lead a confident hunting dog and also understand how to cuddle and hand out cookies, we (and especially Marea) would be happy to hear from you!

DE·Show original

About Marea

What life with Marea looks like

Marea is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
