Walter

Male · Adult · 4 years

Walter is a little chunky so is on a strict diet while in foster, this would need to be carried on when he’s in his new home. Walter does unfortunately get car sick when travelling, so his home can't be too far away from the centre because he would struggle. Walter has so much love to give and is looking for someone who'll give him the chance he deserves. If you're after a loyal little companion who'll happily keep you company on the sofa and make you smile every day, Walter could be the perfect match. Walter is a lovely 4-year-old Dachshund who's looking for a home to call his own. He's a really sweet little man who loves nothing more than curling up on the sofa for a cuddle with his favourite people. He can be a little unsure when meeting someone new, especially men. He can be very vocal when he sees men he doesn't know, we aren't sure if he has had a bad experience in the past, so he appreciates being given the chance to take things at his own pace. For this reason he would be looking for a home with older secondary school children. Once he knows you, he's incredibly affectionate and will happily follow you around looking for fuss. He would make the perfect lap dog as he is so affectionate. Walter enjoys getting out for short walks, where he loves having a sniff and saying hello to his doggy friends. He's happy around other dogs when he's out and about, but at home he'd much rather be your one and only. Like many Dachshunds, he enjoys being the centre of attention and would be happiest in a home where he doesn't have to share it. Being a typical sausage dog Walter can be vocal, mainly when he hears the door knock or when visitors come over.

About Walter

What life with Walter looks like

Walter is a adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Bridgend in Mid Glamorgan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Walter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Walter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Bridgend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Walter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Walter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Bridgend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Walter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Walter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Bridgend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Walter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
