Marhache

Female · Senior · 11 years

Breed: mixed breed Age: 15-11-2015 Other characteristics: cannot be alone Can with other dogs: to be checked Can with cats: ? Can in an apartment: no, house with garden Can with children: yes, 14+ Marhache was seized. The home was dirty, Marhache's coat was completely matted and she smelled bad. Marhache had come and gone as a stray several times before, but this time following a seizure, she was assigned to the animal shelter. Now the search for a new home begins. This lady does not like being alone. Her previous owner always took her everywhere, and at the animal shelter, we notice that being alone causes Marhache to vocalize. That's why she stays in our kitchen, where there's usually someone with her. Here we see that she often finds her peace. The lady doesn't need much: an owner who involves her everywhere, and Marhache is incredibly happy. The tennis ball is fun, a snuffle mat, hide-and-seek games, but the most important thing for Marhache: to be with her owner. She likes to walk and does not react to cars and cyclists. Despite her slightly older age, this lady is still vibrant and can easily alternate a calm indoor life with activities! Since she became the kitchen boss, we see that Marhache greets her people with great enthusiasm. She does not beg and can lie quietly in her spot when there's a lot of activity. She reacts differently to other dogs. Another dog can be checked, but it depends on the interaction whether this will be a match. For people looking for a dog they want to involve everywhere, Marhache is the ideal lady.

About Marhache

What life with Marhache looks like

Marhache is a senior dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marhache, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marhache?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marhache on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marhache if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marhache already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marhache isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marhache and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
