Maria

British Shorthair · Female · Young · 2 years

A beautiful BKH lady with her own mind is looking for a home 🥰 Who knows BKHs, knows: they are charming, people-oriented and wonderfully relaxed and often have very precise ideas about when they want company and when they don't want to be disturbed. Our beautiful Maria is exactly such a little personality ❤️ Maria is very people-oriented and enjoys the attention and contact with her humans. She is happy to be involved and enjoys petting and affection. At the same time, she has her own mind and can communicate very clearly when the time has come for her to withdraw and have her peace. Maria knows exactly what she wants and what she doesn't. Typical BKH, of course 😉 With other cats, Maria is generally compatible. However, she doesn't necessarily seek close cat contact. She doesn't necessarily need a fellow cat by her side and could therefore live wonderfully as a single princess. Alternatively, we can imagine her with a quiet and social cat that respects her boundaries and doesn't constantly seek her closeness. For Maria, we wish a beautiful home in apartment keeping, preferably with a secured garden or a secured terrace where she can enjoy the sun and observe the world a bit. Maria is looking for people who love and understand her personality and that a cat doesn't want to cuddle or be entertained around the clock. She may enjoy closeness, but just as naturally also say: "Thank you, that's enough now." 🥰 Who is looking for a beautiful, self-confident and people-oriented BKH lady and finds her little quirks just as lovable as we do, should definitely get to know Maria ❤️ If you would like to get to know Maria, please fill out our inquiry form.

About Maria

What life with Maria looks like

Maria is a young adult british shorthair cat waiting at Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
