Adopt Mariosh

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Mariosh our little troublemaker has been happily rehomed since April 10, 2016. There are still a few things to work on, but the new owners are sure, after the extra visit, that they can manage everything together with Mariosh. Lots of luck, Flitzpiepe! ………………………………………………………………………………………………… My name is Mariosh and I am a Jack Russell Terrier-Dachshund mix. I have been waiting for a new home since 2014. This is what my caretakers say about me: Mariosh was taken over from a friendly animal protection association. Due to a blood test, we found out that Mariosh is infected with Anaplasmosis, but he shows no clinical symptoms. On the contrary, he is very lively. With an inexpensive antibiotic treatment, this is well manageable, but a blood test for verification is still pending. The new owners should schedule an annual check-up in the next few years, then nothing will stand in the way of a normal, healthy dog life. Mariosh is blind in one eye. The damage is irreversible, and treatment is neither necessary nor possible anymore. From the right angle, you can see the film on the eye, it's hard to recognize spontaneously because Mariosh hardly ever stays still for a second. Only when being scratched and cuddled does he manage to stay still... Mariosh is a real speed demon, doesn't want to miss anything and thinks he's the biggest dog in the world, as he presents himself when other dogs come. He gets along well with female dogs, but with male dogs he shows off his macho side. If he respects someone, he is definitely correctable, but for that he needs to know who is in charge. A true Terrier heart beats in him, and only lovers of these independent, headstrong characters should consider taking him in. With consistency and good training, Mariosh can become a great dog companion who goes everywhere, even if it takes some work. He is very eager to learn and likes treats, and in the sporting area he would certainly be a real asset. As he shows protective instincts after getting used to his environment, a loving but consistent approach is a must. He loves children and the action with them, a family would be ideal for him. Then the parents should discipline the children together with them, that's clear. But with the arrival of Mariosh there would be a very good mental stimulation for the children, Mariosh ensures that, for sure... He can also be a real heartbreaker (all macho), starting with his small, cute appearance and his tendency to cuddle, he always hits the right note. No one can stay angry with him for long... eMail:

About Mariosh

What life with Mariosh looks like

Mariosh is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mariosh, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mariosh?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mariosh on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mariosh if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mariosh already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mariosh isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mariosh and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
