Mark

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Mark would suit an experienced, active adopter who understands the needs of a bright, energetic terrier. He can become stressed around other dogs and may react if not carefully managed, although he has successfully completed parallel walks and is becoming more comfortable with the right guidance. He can be quite an intense little character, so ongoing training and positive socialisation will help him continue making progress. Due to some bite history, Mark must be the only pet in the home and live with adults only, with no visiting children. He has previously shown some guarding behaviour in his former home, although this has not been seen whilst in our care. He is also a strong puller on the lead and will need someone happy to continue his lead training while providing the exercise and enrichment he thrives on. For the right person, Mark will make a loyal, entertaining and rewarding companion. Mark is a lively and energetic 2-year-old Jack Russell Terrier looking for an active, adult-only home where he can enjoy plenty of adventures with his favourite people. He likes being outdoors and is growing in confidence every day, enjoying a good sniff and a run, although he prefers to stay close to his human rather than wander too far. Mark enjoys a fuss and a cuddle on his own terms, happily approaching for attention when he's ready before letting you know when he's had enough. He enjoys playing with toys both independently and with people he trusts. Mark is friendly with new people but appreciates being given the time and space to get to know them before being approached. He doesn't enjoy being left alone and may bark at first, although he does settle after a while. Once he feels safe and secure in his new home, his adopters should be prepared to continue building his confidence with positive training.

About Mark

What life with Mark looks like

Mark is a young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mark, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mark?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mark on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mark if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mark already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mark isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mark and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
