Marlen

Shih Tzu · Female · Puppy · 7 months

Marlen - a small, charming puppy is looking for her family Marlen was born on April 25, 2026 and is a lovely little dog who quickly wins hearts with her friendly nature. She loves people and children and also gets along well with other dogs and cats. With her open, loving nature, she brings the best prerequisites to become a loyal companion for her future family. Marlen has already learned a lot: she is house-trained, walks well on a leash and comes back when called. She also knows the commands "Sit", "Stay", "Come" and "Out". "Lie Down" is almost working. Of course, she can still learn more in her new home and discover the world together with her humans. An important note about the breed: Marlen is a Shih-Tzu. This breed is considered a breeding-related physical defect. Depending on the severity, the shortened snout and the associated anatomical features can lead to health problems. These include, for example, breathing difficulties, eye problems and a limited ability to regulate body temperature. We want to make interested parties aware of these possible risks and enable Marlen to receive the necessary veterinary care if needed. We wish Marlen a loving home where she is welcome as a full-fledged family member and can lead a happy dog life. Who wants to get to know Marlen and give her a forever home?

About Marlen

What life with Marlen looks like

Marlen is a small puppy shih tzu dog waiting at Hundenothilfe-OWL e.V. in Bielefeld.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marlen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marlen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundenothilfe-OWL e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marlen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marlen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundenothilfe-OWL e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Marlen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marlen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundenothilfe-OWL e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marlen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
