Marlin

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Marlin, born in 2022 and about 55 cm tall, is a friendly young male dog who is still a little shy around strangers. That is no surprise when you know where he comes from: in 2024 he was rescued from the Targu Jiu kill shelter. He was on a list that no dog should ever have to see. His world was narrow, loud, and full of fear, and those memories weighed heavily on him at first. Yet Marlin has a remarkable strength within him. Step by step, he began to shake off the shadows of his past. Today he shows himself to his trusted people openly, curiously, and with growing confidence. He allows closeness, seeks contact carefully, and is beginning to not just tolerate petting but truly enjoy it. You can sense right away that Marlin is a sensitive and gentle dog, one who feels deeply. One who bonds with people when given time. One who does not demand loudly but quietly shows how much he wants to belong. In loving hands, he will certainly become one of those dogs people call "soul dogs": quiet, loyal, gentle, and incredibly touching. Marlin is a young male with so much potential. He needs people who see his tenderness, respect his story, and show him that the world can also be kind. Perhaps he is waiting for someone who will say: "Marlin, now your real life begins." Marlin is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is entirely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs even open up faster at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to give orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Marlin

What life with Marlin looks like

Marlin is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Marlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
