Adopt Marlon

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 2 years

Marlon is a Labrador (mother) - Maremmano-mixed breed from Sardinia, born on 1.12.23. He was unfortunately taken away from his mother at only 4 weeks old, the owners had given a false age when surrendering him. The Maremmano in him was underestimated, and his previous upbringing was not consistent or strict enough. One could also say: he is an untrained teenager... Due to too much stress in his previous environment, he is unsettled. What he now needs is a strong, experienced hand with clear leadership, which will give him the security and trust he has not received sufficiently so far. With consistent training with a confident and goal-oriented upbringing, as well as clear rules, he will soon develop into a loyal, faithful partner on four legs. He has not had any contact with children. He is in his teenage years, full of energy, likes to play with fellow animals, and enjoys fetching balls or sticks. His energy also shows in his tendency to jump high – especially when he meets friends, whether human or animal. In recent times, however, he has been increasingly deterred from jumping, and the jumps have become much less frequent. With further training, he will surely soon overcome this. The proximity to his trusted people is of great importance. He is very intelligent, likes to play and snuggle, but needs his freedom in the garden and movement, as well as a task for the herding dog where he can perform his "job." He is no barker, only barking when necessary. He can be led on a loose leash, is a chill ride in the car, and loves to swim. He has a shoulder height of approximately 65cm and weighs around 45kg. Dog trainers and experts confirm his gentle nature, he is compatible with male and female dogs. Only cats he chases – he is, after all, a herding dog who defends his territory and resources. Of course, he is microchipped, has all his vaccinations, including leishmaniasis, and is in perfect health, having been chemically neutered in February. Marlon is currently in the middle of Germany, north of Frankfurt, and looks forward to a permanent new home. Contact:

Kontakt: Peter Dombrowsky, 0151 11 05 15 93

About Marlon

What life with Marlon looks like

Marlon is a large young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Neuwied in Neuwied.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marlon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marlon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Neuwied handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marlon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marlon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Neuwied will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marlon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marlon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Neuwied early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marlon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
