Marmaduke

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Marmaduke is an impressive young female dog who stands out not only for her size but especially for her loving and playful character. At about 60 cm shoulder height and about 30 kg, she is a strong dog - and her future family should take this into account when raising and in everyday life. Marmaduke is currently a bit uncertain on a leash, but she is making rapid progress and is already learning the basic commands very well. She is attentive, cooperative and eager to learn and wants to please her humans. Marmaduke is playful and loving, but not dominant towards other animals. Due to her size and strength, we still want people who can give her security, convey clear rules and are willing to continue training with her. For very young children, Marmaduke is not suitable due to her physical strength. However, we can imagine her well with larger, dog-experienced children. If you are looking for a large, cheerful and clever companion and are willing to work with her on her upbringing, you might find a very special friend for life in Marmaduke. ❤️🐾 Glück für Pfoten e.V. - The Way to a New Life - Tel. and WhatsApp: Mail: Adoption fee: €490 incl. safety harness As we are working, we may not be able to get back to you until a few hours later. It is best to contact the above-mentioned mediator in writing (by e-mail or WhatsApp) and ask for a callback (if necessary, do not forget to mention the phone number). Please be patient! Our protégés travel with Traces and are only placed in Germany (nationwide). If you would like to apply for a dog and live in a rented apartment, please arrange a written landlord's certificate stating that the keeping of a (further or new) dog is permitted. We only place dogs if there is no elevator, max. to the 2nd floor to prevent health problems.

About Marmaduke

What life with Marmaduke looks like

Marmaduke is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Glück für Pfoten e.V. in Dortmund.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marmaduke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marmaduke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glück für Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marmaduke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marmaduke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glück für Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marmaduke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marmaduke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glück für Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marmaduke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
