Martin

Belgian Malinois · Male · Young · 2 years

Martin – lovable Malinois seeks his forever dog bed for always Martin is a young male Malinois, tall and robustly built. At the animal shelter, he shows a people-oriented and friendly demeanor, and generally gets along well with other dogs. Due to his size, his caregivers at the animal shelter pay special attention to ensuring that new dog encounters are calm and controlled. As a Malinois, he brings typical breed characteristics: he is attentive, hardworking, and requires both physical and mental stimulation. A life without sufficient mental stimulation would not be fair to him. At the same time, he needs clear structures, reliable leadership, and people who know what they are getting into with a dog of this breed. Nothing is known about Martin's background, so it should be assumed that he still has a lot to learn – from everyday household routines to behavioral rules and the self-regulation that is particularly important for Malinois. Patience, consistency, and a secure framework are crucial for him to develop into a balanced dog. For Martin, we are looking for a dog-experienced home, ideally one with knowledge of Malinois or comparable working breeds. People who are willing to invest time and responsibility and enjoy working with an active, eager-to-learn dog. Martin brings everything it takes to become a faithful companion – provided he gets the chance to arrive in a suitable environment and finally lead the dog life he so deserves. If you are aware of what comes with adopting a shelter dog and you have fallen in love with the need, please contact the responsible mediator at SALVA Hundehilfe. We would also be very grateful for the provision of a foster home for Martin.

About Martin

What life with Martin looks like

Martin is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Martin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Martin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Martin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Martin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Martin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Martin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Martin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
