Marty

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 6 years

Hello, I am Marty ... and a lovable fellow with a playful and lively nature that brings joy. I am a little ray of sunshine and beam when spoken to affectionately. Unfortunately, I am already the second time in the animal shelter. My owner had to give me up after three years because I was simply overwhelmed in the large family with too many people. It just wasn't right for me. Before that, I was secured for animal welfare reasons. Would you like to know more about me? I love playing and cuddling. I get along better with other dogs and find encounters with fellow animals a bit problematic. Of course, an experienced person by my side would be very helpful. I do not like being overwhelmed. I need stimulation but not overstimulation. I play incredibly well but need regular quiet phases, or I get overexcited. Additionally, I do not like it when my toys or food are taken away. I defend them when they are. Generally, however, I am a friendly and well-mannered fellow – my animal caretakers are big fans of me. I can already do the basic commands. Additionally, I am house-trained and can travel well in the car. Although getting into the car at first is a bit unnerving for me, I drive without a problem once inside. Whether I can also be left alone is still unclear. Therefore, it would be important to plan enough time for me in the beginning. On the leash, I do well. But I can also be easily distracted. Then I might pull or stop. I would like to be with a patient individual with breed experience. I would be very happy with a quiet environment with as few distractions as possible. Children are too excitable for me and are therefore not an option. I have health limitations ... because I likely have EIC (exercise intolerance) – a condition where my muscles become weak and I collapse due to overexertion. For this, I take Paroxetin and Rimifin. My new people should therefore make sure I do not "overheat" and take more breaks during play. Because when I am overexcited, I tend to have impulsive behaviors. But with breaks, we can get that under control. Would you like to meet me? If you would like to give me a chance, please contact my animal caretakers or fill out the form below. I look forward to you. Please also plan several visits to the animal shelter. And note that in Berlin, due to breed restrictions. This animal must be handled with a muzzle.

About Marty

What life with Marty looks like

Marty is a medium-sized adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Likely has EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) - a condition causing exercise intolerance. Resource guards food and toys. Needs calm environment with minimal stimuli.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
