Matilda

European Shorthair · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Matilda was found with her kitten at a large shopping center in Olbia - both completely exhausted, half starved and without hope. Fortunately, someone did not turn away and brought the two to L.I.D.A., the large animal shelter in Olbia. But for the little kitten, all help came too late: just a day later it died, too weak and too malnourished to survive. Matilda, however, fought on. With loving care and many helping hands, she made it - she survived. And now she is ready for a new chapter: a home where she can finally be loved. The about two-year-old beauty with the shining blue eyes is a gentle soul. She doesn't push herself, but waits patiently until she gains one's trust. But once the ice is broken, she presses her head into one's hand and trembles with joy over every loving touch. For Matilda, we wish for a home in rural surroundings, where she can enjoy safe outdoor time after an acclimatization period - far from traffic and with many shady places that protect her sensitive white fur. In the new home, there should already be at least one social cat of similar age. Alternatively, Matilda would gladly bring a friend or a friend from the animal shelter. Who will give this white cat with the spotted tail a loving home - one in which she will never suffer hunger again, in which a soft bed always waits and in which she receives the care she had to go without for so long? Matilda and I look forward to your call or message. Matilda is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Before departure, she will also receive a parasite prophylaxis. We mediate nationwide, provided you are willing to receive Matilda at one of the handover points along the transport route.

About Matilda

What life with Matilda looks like

Matilda is a large young adult european shorthair cat waiting at PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matilda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matilda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matilda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matilda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Matilda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matilda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matilda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
